Well I gotchyez all beat. In the Fall of 1968 I attended an enthusiastic rally (as one of the multitudinous Enthusiasts, not merely a furtive Mole :), at the Hartford CT Armory, (!) for presidential nominee Richard M. Nixon. The Trickster gave a fine speech, to thunderous applause. / The hall was festooned with banners proclaiming, “Nixon’s the One.”

They were correct. Turned out he sure Was. ;>

I was caught on national television attending a Ron Paul event. I wasn’t exactly thrilled. I wouldn’t have minded for just about any of the others, but yikes.

We drove by the MLK memorial Sunday night (MLK’s actual birthday) around 10pm, and granted it was a cold day, but I was a tad surprised to see that there was pretty much nobody there. This proves that America is still racist.

When I went to DC in 2009, my family went to the Lincoln Memorial at night. There is now a marker where MLK stood. A group of students was gathered around and an audio recording of the speech was playing. I stood by and listened too. It was something.

Mike is absolutely correct.

A little more on foot strikes. Heel strike is a bio-mechanical disaster but lots of shoes encourage that kind of running. There are some that are designed to encourage a forefoot strike. But those cause different bio-mechanical problems as does a conscious forefoot strike. The goal is a natural gait. There are all sorts of books and clinics and so forth on this topic. They all present the same general goal (though they call it different things, from Chi Running to Pose) with slightly different methods for unlearning the bad habits your shoes have taught you. But at the most basic, look at how a little kid runs barefoot and run like that.

Sorry, I know I babble about this stuff incessantly…

On a linguistic note, while accepting that we are in America (where American is spoken), the English language used in the constitution – “See U.S. Const., art. II, § 2, cl. 3 (“The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.”)” – did any of the recent controversial 4 appointments made by Mr. Obama fill vacancies which match the explicit language stating “Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate” ?

Didn’t all 4 of ‘em happen while the Senate was officially in session ?
