Liveblogs

Feb 23

The 85th annual Academy Awards start at 6:30 PM Mountain Time. Becky’s and my live-blog / live-chat / live-snark will officially begin at 6:00 PM (though you can start chatting earlier if you like).

The chat is right here, in this blog post. To participate, you’ll need to log in below via Twitter, Facebook or OpenID.

The chat will also (if Cover It Live’s tweet import function is working properly) auto-import any tweets with the hashtag #LRToscars, as well as any tweets by, or mentioning, Becky or me.)

I will attempt to live-update Oscar Pool results throughout the evening, though you can expect a bit of a lag around the girls’ bedtimes. Also, there will undoubtedly be some sort of OMG SPREADSHEET #PANIC!!! early in the night, rendering initial results unreliable. That’s really just part of the tradition at this point.

Have fun!

P.S. There was talk last year about doing an Oscars Drinking Game this year in the chat. For various reasons, I regret to announce that I will not be organizing or participating in any such revelry. However, if other Oscar live-chatters would like to do a drinking game, and if someone would like to propose rules, I will be happy to post them in the chat. :) Photos of yourself drunkenly watching the Oscars are also encouraged. Oscar Pool Results & Live Blog!

Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 2:12 pm Mountain Time

Starting tonight at 6:00 PM Mountain Time (or a little thereafter, depending on kids’ bedtimes and such), I’ll be live-blogging the Academy Awards — and live-updating the results of my 7th annual Oscar Pool.

Or, follow along below… but really, you want to click the link for the separate liveblog page, because that’s where the live-updating Oscar Pool results (and also a live listing of award winners) are, plus the CoverItLive window.

Again, click here for the separate liveblog page with live results and whatnot.

Election Day live-tweeting

Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 12:03 am Mountain Time

All day long Tuesday, my tweets will appear, in real-time, in the window below. So will Becky’s, Nate Silver’s, Drudge_Siren’s, and, just for fun, the Big Ben Clock’s.

(You’ll need to initially hit “Click for Live Updates” to get things moving.)

To join in the conversation, tweet something @brendanloy, and/or with the hashtag #lrt10, and it’ll appear above. You can use the window below, if you like! [NOTE: After the first tweet, you will need to retype @brendanloy or #lrt10 for each subsequent tweet!]

iPhone 4/HD unveiling open thread

Monday, June 7, 2010 at 10:27 am Mountain Time

[UPDATE: Event over; iPhone 4 is here. And it's awesome.

Of course, the best part of the demo was when Steve Jobs had network connectivity issues while trying to demonstrate the new, super high definition screen:

Yeah... somebody's getting fired. Heh. To make matters worse (and more hilarious), at one point, Jobs asked for suggestions from one of his techies, and someone in the audience yelled out, "Try Verizon!" HAHAHAHA.

Last but not least, here's an ad for the new "FaceTime" video-chat program, whose blatant emotional manipulation touching family images are sure to give you (carefully engineered and manufactured) goosebumps:

I don't recall the radiologist having Wi-Fi in the patient rooms when Becky was pregnant -- which would be necessary for the scene depicted at the end to actually happen, since FaceTime only works via Wi-Fi. Also, FaceTime requires both ends of the conversation to have iPhone 4s; it's not even compatible with iChat. Since these are software issues, not hardware issues, those "features" (or lack thereof) will undoubtedly change with time. For now, though, a bit underwhelming for a "one more thing," methinks.

Having said that, it's conceivable I may actually be buying my first iPhone in the near future. We shall see. I note, in passing, that they go on sale four days after Father's Day. Hmm... :)

Original post below.]

At 11:00 AM Mountain Time, Steve Jobs will officially announce what we already know, thanks to those enterprising journalists/thieving rat bastards at Gizmodo: OMG IT’S A NEW IPHONE AND IT HAS A HIGHER-RESOLUTION SCREEN AND A FRONT-FACING CAMERA AND OMG IT’S AWESOME!!!!1!!! And, er, he’ll probably also tell us some stuff we don’t know. I won’t be liveblogging, per se, but these folks will:

U.K. Election live coverage

Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 3:53 pm Mountain Time

Tweets from myself, and various other tweeters I follow who are covering the U.K. election, will appear automatically below. Alas, because neither Cover It Live nor ScribbleLive are importing tweets properly right now, I’ll have to use the non-interactive, non-archive-able Twitter Widget verison. *sigh*

GO BUTLER!!! BEAT DUKE!!!

Monday, April 5, 2010 at 3:40 pm Mountain Time

Live-tweeting below. You can join in by clicking “Make a comment” at the top of the window, or by tweeting something @brendanloy, or by emailing 14115@scribblelive.com.

[Live window removed; full transcript after the jump.]

Folks, this isn’t just a basketball game. It isn’t just a title game. It isn’t just the first game in my entire life that I’ve had money riding on (I win my office pool if the Bulldogs win).

It’s David vs. Goliath, good vs. evil, young vs. old, above vs. below, the Sports Bubble vs. the Bubblefighters, the home team vs. the team America loves to hate, #toobigyo vs. #dukesucks, the Upset That Launched A Thousand Words Of Hackish Journalistic Prose vs. the most depressing and anticlimactic ending imaginable to what has been, up to this point, arguably the Greatest. Tournament. Ever.

Oh yeah, and it’s also “nothing less than the National Flippin’ Championship, and one of our own is playing for it.”

It’s Butler vs. Duke, and IT’S ON.

I will again be confining my tweets, and any comments thereon, to the ScribbleLive window at the top of this post. In addition, tweets by Kyle Whelliston, Andy Glockner, Pat Forde, Seth Davis, Andy Katz, Mark Schlabach and Matt Zemek, and Butler student Sarah Black, will also appear automatically in the window.

Let’s do this thing. GO DAWGS!!!

UPDATE: Full live-tweeting transcript after the jump.

Final Four live-tweeting

Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 3:30 pm Mountain Time

My ability to live-tweet during Saturday’s games will, I suspect, be considerably limited, for toddler-related reasons. Nevertheless, I will once again be confining my tweets, and any comments thereon, to the window below. In addition, tweets (including retweets) from Kyle Whelliston, Andy Glockner, Pat Forde and Seth Davis and Mark Schlabach, and Butler student Sarah Black, will also appear automatically in the window.

You can join the dialogue either by clicking “Make a comment” at the top of the window below, or by tweeting something @brendanloy, or by emailing 14115@scribblelive.com.

[Live window removed; full transcript after the jump.]

GO BUTLER!!!!! BEAT SPARTY!!!!!

Also, um, er, Go Duke. *cringe*

UPDATE: Full live-tweeting transcript after the jump.

Sweet 16 live-tweeting, Day 2

Friday, March 26, 2010 at 9:42 pm Mountain Time

Yet again, instead of letting tweets take over my blog, I’m going to temporarily confine them here. But I’m doing it a little bit differently this time. My tweets, and any comments thereon, will appear in the first window below. Tweets from everyone on my college basketball list will appear in the second window below.

Sweet 16 live-tweeting

Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 10:25 pm Mountain Time

Again, instead of letting tweets take over my blog, I’m going to temporarily confine them to the window below — and not just my tweets, but tweets from everyone on my college basketball list.

Go Mid-Majors! Beat Other Guys! Also — with apologies to La Rev and the gang, and a shout-out to David K. — Go Washington! Beat ‘Eers! But most of all, GO BIG RED!

NCAA Tourney Day 4 live-tweeting

Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 9:45 am Mountain Time

Rather than allow my homepage to be overrun by tweets again today, I’m going to funnel everything into this window. To comment, either click “Make a comment,” or tweet something @brendanloy.

In addition to my tweets, any tweets from a bunch of Gonzaga bloggers, and other college-hoops bloggers, will also auto-post.

P.S. Loyette says, “Go Zags!”

UPDATE: I’m changing the title of this post from “Go Zags!!! Beat ‘Cuse!!!” because, after the humiliating beatdown I just witnessed, that glimpse of once-high hopes is just too depressing.

UPDATE 2: After the jump, a complete transcript of the live-tweeting.

Super Bowl XLIV Live Chat

Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 2:54 pm Mountain Time

I’m billing this as a “live chat” rather than a “live blog,” since I don’t know how much I’ll be participating in it, what with girls being awake for much of the game. But, at the very least, my occasional tweets will appear automatically in the chat window below.
