From the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado…

On my commute home this afternoon, I’ll fulfill my annual Martin Luther King Day tradition of taking 17 minutes every third Monday in January to listen to the “I Have a Dream” speech in its entirety. Some part(s) of it never fails to give me goosebumps.
Dr. King’s actual birthday was yesterday; he would have been 83 years old.

When I went to DC in 2009, my family went to the Lincoln Memorial at night. There is now a marker where MLK stood. A group of students was gathered around and an audio recording of the speech was playing. I stood by and listened too. It was something.

We drove by the MLK memorial Sunday night (MLK’s actual birthday) around 10pm, and granted it was a cold day, but I was a tad surprised to see that there was pretty much nobody there. This proves that America is still racist.
