By Brendan Loy

Well, let me tell you of a story ’bout a man named Charlie on a tragic and fateful day. He put $18 million in his pocket, kissed his wife and family, and got fired by ND today. And did he ever return? No, he never returned. And his fate is finally learned. He will coach no more along the Irish sidelines, he’s the man who’ll never return.

The Irish brass’s decision to give him the ridiculous contract extension mid-way through year one has to go down as one of the stupidest moves ever in the history of college football.

Y’know, you occasionally demonstrate your uncanny knack for shoehorning Current Events into Old Folkie Folksongs (and Other such doggerel :) expropriated & butchered arranged & adapted for the Purpose. / Where you acquired this extraordinary mania talent I have No idea….

Now you denizens of SouthBend, don’t you think it’s a scandal
When bad coaches get to stay and stay?
Fight for Touchdown Jesus! Hire Brian Kelly!
Bring back Fighting Irish Glory Day!

(Or else you’ll never return, no you’ll never return,
    All your Special pride unearned,
And you’ll glide forever down the Field of Memories
Of the Team that never Returned.)
