I’m originally from CT, and it’s sad that Lieberman is one of our senators. I agree with Brendan that it’s not very constructive to call him names, but I do wonder, why is Lieberman a Democrat today? He cheered on the war in Iraq, he seems to be all for expansion of the War on Terror, against affirmative action, gave a glowing endorsement of Condoleezza Rice, etc.
Let’s see where the Dems go if Dean does become the new chair of the DNC (Hooray!). We’ll have Dean and Lieberman under the big tent.

I’m from Connecticut too, and I’m immensely proud that Lieberman is one of our senators. Like him, I am a loyal Democrat who supported the war in Iraq because I believed (and still believe) that it was the right thing to do — though my set of reasons for invading was someone different than Bush’s, I nevertheless believe it was the right decision. However, like Lieberman, I believe Bush has screwed up in various ways. These are not mutually exclusive positions. Moreover, “expansion of the War on Terror” is clearly necessary if/when the threat expands… and clearly not necessary if/when it doesn’t… so I’m not sure what you mean, but I generally think Lieberman has the right attitude. Contrary to popular belief, defending America from legitimate threats is not antithetical to what it means to be a Democrat… and spreading freedom around the world is EXTREMELY consistent with liberalism. (Hello, wasn’t getting rid of the Taliban a pet liberal/feminist cause, UNTIL Bush invaded?) As for affirmative action, no less a Democrat than President Clinton said “mend, not end” … isn’t that essentially Lieberman’s position as well? Finally, a “glowing endorsement of Condoleezza Rice” … well, I don’t know exactly what Lieberman said about Rice, but I doubt it could have been much more “glowing” than what Dianne Feinstein said in introducing Rice. Do you consider it “sad” that she’s on of California’s senators?
Anyway, I agree that it’s great to have a party which can hold both Dean and Lieberman under the big tent. I think both of them have a lot to offer. Unfortunately, I think many of Dean’s supporters are dead weight holding the party down and even dragging it backwards. (I’m talking primarily about the people for whom the choice was not Dean vs. Kerry or Dean vs. Lieberman, but Dean vs. Kucinich or Dean vs. Nader.)

Hey there swollen dick. Nice going, you’re really doing a good job of making the left seem credible, going around and calling your opponents crazy. That’s the sort of thing that will win you lots of elections. Yup, telling your fellow Democrats (I voted for Gore and Kerry) who happen to disagree with you about the war that they have brain fever, that’s an EXCELLENT strategy.
I’m not going to bother to explain to you my reasons for supporting the war, because you’re obviously far too closed-minded to care. I will say, however, that the 350 $billion HAS saved hundreds of kids’ lives… it just happens that they’re Iraqi kids who would have been killed by Saddam Hussein over the years/decades if he had stayed in power. I know you’ll counter that “U.S. bombs have killed X number of Iraqi civilians”… but the fact is that Saddam killed countless more, and would have continued to kill countless more, had he remained in power. Inaction has consequences too.
