WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
BOISE STATE WINS THE FIESTA BOWL ON A STATUE-OF-LIBERTY PLAY ON A TWO-POINT CONVERSION IN OVERTIME!!!!!!
YESSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Un-freakin-believable!!! I honestly think that might have been a better game than USC-ND last year. Certainly the best football game I’ve ever watched on TV. Absolutely incredible.
And an absolutely perfect ending for a champion of the mid-majors like me. I was literally just running around the in-laws’ living room, silently pumping my fists and jumping over furniture. (Everyone else in the house is asleep. Fools. They missed an utterly amazing game.)
Fox reporter asks Boise QB Jared Zabransky: “Do you deserve a shot at Ohio State?”
Zabransky: “I believe we do … We deserve a chance at a national title.”
Yes, Jared, yes you do.
UPDATE: And Ian Johnson just proposed to his (cute!) cheerleader girlfriend, and she said yes! Call me an emotional sap, but I totally have goosebumps. Okay, that puts it over the top: this was officially better than the USC-ND game. :)

AMAZING! INCREDIBLE! GO BRONCOS!!!
January 2nd, 2007 at 12:58:10 am
Frickin’ unbelievable. Best college football game that I’ve ever seen.
P.S. Brendan what is a STAUTE of Liberty?
January 2nd, 2007 at 12:59:24 am
Heh, I just noticed that too, Patrick, and fixed it.
God, I wish I had gone to that game. I never would have been able to convince Becky that the price of the tickets were worth it ($135 face value!) — hell, I couldn’t even convince myself, really. But man! In retrospect, a seat at that game would have been worth its weight in gold.
January 2nd, 2007 at 12:59:57 am
I love it. 4th quarter and the OT will have a permanent spot on my DVR.
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:01:06 am
Holy Crap! Ian Johnson just proposed to his girlfriend live on TV and she said yes. He’s crying. WOW! Does it get any better?
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:01:07 am
and a proposal on national TV… what more could you ask for?!?
:)
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:01:50 am
is it just me or did the on the field announcer right after the interview with ian say “and now you’re going to propose to your girlfriend?” and completely ruin the surprise because his girlfriend was standing right next to him? ouch…
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:01:54 am
Hah awesome, Ian Johnson must be having the happiest day of his life
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:03:03 am
the ticket’s weight in gold? so probably less than the face value of the ticket….
you’d be getting ripped off dude. good thing you didnt go
:)
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:03:13 am
C. Bassett, is there some way you can send me a copy?
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:04:25 am
Anon at 1:03:03, I said the seat’s weight in gold. :)
And, Anon at 1:01:50, yes, the Fox reporter totally fucked that up. But it was still a great moment.
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:06:57 am
Brendan,
I think there’s a downloadable version on the iTunes Music Store.
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:08:18 am
if only I had picked them in the pool… then this would be perfect
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:09:54 am
oh, and Brendan, I was looking at my picks and I noticed that you picked MICHIGAN?!? Huh? What’s up with that, IrishTROJAN! :) Happy New Year!
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:18:58 am
I’m going to agree that this is even better than SC/ND last year. Best game I’ve ever watched live on TV (maybe Stanford/Cal with the band was better, who knows?).
And for those who wonder, a Statue of Liberty play is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Liberty_play
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:19:04 am
That game is why college football is the best sporting event in America. Amazing game!
And here’s another case for a play-off system. Well done, Boise State.
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:19:09 am
Heh, yeah, I picked against both the Trojans and the Irish. Here’s hoping I’m wrong twice!
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:21:45 am
just once is fine with me :)
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:23:36 am
That was ridiculous. I just can’t believe what I just saw. I am in shock. That’s the sort of game you only see on sports countdown shows. That was just UN REAL.
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:25:23 am
Oh man, now I’ll never get to sleep. I’m going to go paint myself blue and orange.
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:28:40 am
Seriously! I want to go out to The Backer or something! Unfortunately, I’m in sleepy Gold Canyon, Arizona… no place in sight to party. I have half a mind to drive to Mill Avenue in Tempe and find some Boise State fans partying, as I’m sure they will be well into the night… but I’m thinking it would be slightly bad form to take the in-laws’ car without asking (especially to drive it to a bar), and it would also be bad form to wake them up to ask, so… :)
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:30:29 am
Sorry Brendan, I don’t have the capability.
I forgot about the game being on iTunes shortly. One of the downsides of the game being played on FOX is it won’t be replayed on ESPN years from now.
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:31:01 am
Before I leave the Phoenix Valley, I am going to buy myself a Boise State shirt if I have the opportunity, and when people criticize me for being a bandwagon fan, fuck ‘em. If you’re not on the Boise State bandwagon right now, you’re not a sports fan, or a human being with a pulse for that matter. (Oklahoma fans excepted.)
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:35:11 am
I don’t see how this actually helps the argument for a playoff. Boise’s win shows how conference reputation shouldn’t be an overriding consideration for selection… which is an argument for automatic bids for the conference champs.
The proposals that involve 2 rounds and 4 teams would not have included Boise this year, and those that involve 8 teams need 3 rounds. And which 8 would have been picked? Boise was 8 in the final BCS, but to get them into an 8 team playoff, you have to bump some combination of Wisconsin, ND, Wake, or OU (or other teams that finished above Boise in the BCS) from the list.
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:36:59 am
I’m on the bandwagon, no doubt. Hell, I was on their bandwagon when they played Louisville in the Liberty Bowl two years ago, but quickly jumped off when they lost. That game was just awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome.
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:37:13 am
Almost turned this game off early in the 3rd quarter. I’m on the east coast and have to be up at 5 to catch a plane. Would have been a colossal mistake. Broncos are an exciting team.
Boise State shirt is a must have.
January 2nd, 2007 at 1:41:13 am
Dan Port: That Wikipedia entry already has a line about Boise State’s use of the Statue of Liberty play - and the game has been over for less than an hour!
Bummer Sooner, though.
January 2nd, 2007 at 2:01:56 am
Heh! Can’t sleep. Have just ordered Boise State Fiesra Bowl Champion hat.
http://www.footballfanatics.com/COLLEGE_Boise_State_Broncos
Hmm - now which shirt?
January 2nd, 2007 at 2:05:15 am
Fiesra Bowl? Hope they don’t that on my hat.
January 2nd, 2007 at 2:07:00 am
Just when Boise State was about to turn back into a potato, they did THAT. And THAT. Wow.
January 2nd, 2007 at 7:28:49 am
That was absolutely amazing. Husband and I were watching and he was ready to concede victory to Boise State once they were up early 14-0. Little did he know what would happen between then and the end. Definitely incredible. And I agree, this game ranks ahead of the “Bush Push” game for two main reasons: 1. it’s the little guy defeating the big guy; just like the interviews from the Boise State players during the game, it’s not about the 5-star recruits, it’s about guys who have heart and want to play some football, and 2. the end to the game was not controversial, but was a solid play, one that they had already run earlier in the season, which Oklahoma obviously knew, but that they added the extra fake on to. Absolutely beautiful play execution.
January 2nd, 2007 at 8:44:19 pm
And to think, but for that quirky fluke punt bounce off the Boise State player’s leg, Oklahoma might not have even had a chance to tie the game!
January 2nd, 2007 at 8:47:09 pm
Seriously. For all the focus on trick plays, it was Oklahoma that needed quirks and miracles to get back in the game. Boise State was the honest-to-goodness better team.
