People (well, mostly Becky really) keep asking me what I want for Christmas. To be honest, nothing comes to mind off the top of my head — well, one thing does, but I don’t think a 15-inch MacBook Pro is in anyone’s price range. :) So, I’m asking for your advice. (After all, you’re Time’s person of the year, so you must have some pretty good ideas!) Y’all know what kinds of stuff I like: fun, nerdy gadgets and electronic toys; USC and Notre Dame and Gonzaga stuff; things that relate to weather, astronomy, Lord of the Rings, or another of my myriad hobbies and interests; and, uh, other cool stuff. Ideas?
P.S. If you don’t have any Brendan-specific ideas, how about this: what do you want for Christmas? If enough people answer that question, odds are some of the answers will probably work for me as well. And hey, if any of your friends and family also read this blog, and see your comment: bonus! :)

A $2.50 giftcard to Velcro-Rama?

Brendan!!! Are you really still a Gonzaga fan? They really aren’t very good this year as you saw today. Well, to be fair, you probably didn’t even know they had a game today. Just so you know, they did, and they lost. I know you are a huge Zags fan once the NCAAs start, but I suggest you start cheering for a good mid-major team and consider cheering for us.
If you were a good boy, I bet Santa will bring you a Bulldogs sweatshirt that you can wear to school in the spring.

Brendan wants the USC football team of last year for Christmas. I don’t think he’s going to get it. :-P

Yes, I watched today. I’ve watched a bunch of games this year, and they’ve been inconsistent. When they’re on, they’re great. See: wins over North Carolina, Texas and Washington, all in VERY impressive fashion. But they’ve also laid some eggs, with today’s being BY FAR the biggest. (Butler and Wazzu, both of which are quality teams this year, flat-out beat the Zags… this time, they beat themselves. Where was the effort?)
It’s hard to get a handle on this year’s team. In a lot of ways, they’re better than last year: more balanced, more defense, less standing around looking at Adam Morrison. Derek Raivio is playing much better, Pargo is really coming along, and Heytvelt is a beast. They’ll be even better once Micah Downs gets back. But the inconsistency is concerning. Of course, I’m a fan of them regardless of all that. And thanks, but I don’t need a Gonzaga sweatshirt, I already have one, which I have been known to wear at all times of year, provided the weather is appropriate.

Come to think of it, if you look at Gonzaga’s last eight games, it’s been literally on-off-on-off every other game. Against North Carolina, they played awesome and won. Against Butler, they played poorly and lost. Against Idaho, they played awesome and won easily. Against Portland State, they played poorly (though of course they still won by 18; Portland State is bad). Against Texas, they played awesome and won. Against Washington State, they played poorly and lost. Against Washington, they played awesome and won. Against Georgia, they played poorly and lost.
If nothing else, that pattern would seem to bode well for the Duke game. :) But it’s hardly a promising sign thinking ahead to March.

Brendan, do you have a BUTLER Bulldogs sweatshirt?
December 17th, 2006 at 2:03:37 am
Heh. No, I don’t. I will be going to a Butler game in February, though … although whether I’m rooting for them depends on which team ESPN selects to play them. (It’s the BracketBusters game.)

I would suggest a copy of Ray Lamontagne’s “Trouble”. A friend turned me onto this guy and I must say his music and voice are beyond words… kind of a mix of Cat Stevens, Van Morrison and a sliver of Michael McDonald thrown in for good measure…if you don’t believe me, well…have a look for yourselves. this guy moves me. (just remove the spaces after www. that i inserted so you could see the link, cut and paste…enjoy)

Brendan:
Why don’t you try aksing for health and happiness. That would go a long way, methinks.

Season 2 of Boston Legal on DVD, and “Team of Rivals” (a biography of Abraham Lincoln that, truth be told, I just went out and bought myself instead of waiting).

I successfully suggested to David that he wants a bread machine. Maybe you do too. Bread machines are good things.

The Phillips Photo Frame my son received for his birthday Saturday (which was purchased as a Christmas present for me, but “PREgifted” to him by his father), is AWESOME.
Great way to display all those wonderful digital pictures you’ve archived.

Brendan,
I’m a frequent reader of your blog, but never commented. I want to spread the good news about my free macbook pro from computer-offer.com. You or any reader should sign up to check it out (make sure to use a secondary email, since spam ensues).
Basically, you do 18 merchant offers (free trials, cheap purchases, credit cards, etc.) and get a computer. Took me $250 and 45 days. Only catches are frequently cancelling subscriptions to these foolish things, and tax burden of a couple hundred bucks (taxed like income). Very easy to do.
I attached my email if you want more information for the low, low cost of your loyalty to that lousy West Coast university. = )
Oh, and I want itunes gift certificates for Christmas, so I can buy all those awful singles from the early nineties.

what I want wouldn’t really help you too much… sorry.

It’s one of those places where you buy goats for other people (if you want a goat of your own, I might be able to find a place for you…but your other animals might be a bit leary). This site is also fun because you actually get stuff while supporting folks who neds support:

I realize that it can sound rather pretentious…or at least I have heard it sound rather pretentious, but I have a lot of crap and don’t need anymore (which is not to say that I don’t want more…dvds, books, cooking stuff, YARN). Really though, what am I going to do with a goat?
