Butler leads Gonzaga, 43-29 at halftime.
If Butler wins this game, they’ll be 6-0 with wins over Notre Dame, Indiana, Tennessee and Gonzaga. The Bulldogs were “ranked” #35 in the AP poll and #40 in the coaches’ poll last week. If there’s any justice in the world, they ought to be in the Top 10 if they win this game. Honestly, can anyone in the country boast as impressive a resume as Butler’s so far, if they win this game? Seriously!
UPDATE: Butler wins, 79-71.
Gonzaga clearly had a letdown from the North Carolina win. But all credit to Butler; they’re clearly a good team, and were definitely the better team on the court tonight.

Top 10 after beating 2 bottom ranked teams?
November 24th, 2006 at 9:19:58 pm
What “bottom ranked teams”? Notre Dame, I admit, sucks. But Indiana is a well-respected team, and both Tennessee and Gonzaga were ranked last week. My point is, though, if you’re basing the rankings on what each team has accomplished so far this season, as opposed to preseason expectations, I challenge you to find a team with a better resume than Butler thus far. I’m sure they won’t end up being one of the 10 best teams in the country, but so far? What ten teams have better resumes?

Josh, Have you even watched Butler play. They are good. Very very good. If the refs in the Gonzaga game wouldn’t have screwed with both teams the game could have been much worse for Gonzaga or vice versa. Come tournament time I wouldn’t want to face them. Gonzaga is very strong but Butler is on a roll and should roll through the Horizon league.

Even if your going just on rankings Gonzaga dominated an excellent UNC team. It’s still very early but Butler is at least a top 20 team. It will be interesting how they do in the Horizon.

Fire Mike Brey… hell, someone had to say it.

whoa, whoa, whoa… as the UNC alumni rep here, I’ll grant that the Zags played great, shot lights out, and beat the Heels last night. But dominated? It was a two point game with about 3 minutes to go. Both teams had huge leads earlier in the game, and again, I’m not denying the Zags are yet again a fine team. But no one dominated that game.

It’s a good day to be a bulldog. One from Indy that is. Btw this team is not nearly as talented as the one that went 29-4 in 02′ and did not make the tourney.
Mark Butler 04′

Tennessee was ranked 21st, but is a work in progress. They are still about the 5th best SEC team. Gonzaga wasn’t even ranked last week. ND sucks and Indiana is still a year or two away from being a power. They beat bigger teams, but to say they should be ranked in the top 10 after beating the 21st and 23rd ranked team is a little too much.

Josh, you still haven’t answered my question. All teams start the season 0-0. What ten teams have a better resume than Butler at this point?
November 25th, 2006 at 12:54:51 am
Almost everyone ahead of them.. This is like almost saying that a non ranked football team beats a 20-25 ranked team in the first week of the football season and that team should be in the top 10.
November 25th, 2006 at 12:55:47 am
BTW, Gonzaga sucks anyway, so beating Gonzaga isn’t a huge challenge. Gonzaga will lose 10-15 games this year.

Almost everyone ahead of them
I want names. Specific names of teams. Give me names, and the teams they’ve beaten. I want a list of 10 resumes that are better than Butler’s. Otherwise you’re just blowing smoke.
This is like almost saying that a non ranked football team beats a 20-25 ranked team in the first week of the football season and that team should be in the top 10.
Except that would be judging a team based on ONE GAME and this is judging a team based on SIX GAMES.
Gonzaga will lose 10-15 games this year.
LOL! To whom? What 10-15 teams on their schedule are going to beat them? Are they going to go, what, 9-7 in the WCC? Are you insane?

P.S. Re “Gonzaga sucks”… Did you watch the North Carolina game? Do the Tar Heels “suck” too?
Dumbass.
