Unconfirmed reports coming in that 80’s one-hit wonder Murray Head has been sighted as a source of the unrest, in an attempt to gin up interest in a reunion tour . . .
Man, I hope this resolves itself peacefully, somehow. Thailand is a source of stability in the region and it’d be grim for violence to break out there. What’s more, it’s practically Europe’s fave holiday destination. (”I disagree,” - Gary Glitter) From what I hear the President has been doing some unpopular promotions of his old mates in the armed forces, and despite the people liking him the opposition have teamed with the elements of the army to oust him. Trouble is, some units are still loyal to him. Obviously that’s a theory, guess we won’t know for a few hours at least.
Hmm, I thought it was swallowing and deleting my comments - evidently not. Please forgive my awful double postings, especially the ones that repeat feeble jokes.
“Thailand’s opposition Party of Democratic Reform issued a statement on Thai television saying it is behind the coup attempt in Bangkok and has the loyalty of Thailand’s armed forces.”
Arrr. The Party of Democratic Reform tis drivin’ this here mutiny. Methinks nothin’ says Democratic Reform like a military coup.
You let your best friend talk to your mother like this?
“Yes, yes, just do it for the children! Please, someone get me a tissue. Face it, you liberals like human death and tragedy. It makes you more secure in your moral superiority because you can stand afar and decry the shame of it all. And then you can go back to your art galleries and Manhattan dinner parties and whine about how evil Republicans and neoconservatives are, when we’re the only ones with the balls to actually do anything about it. You can take your liberal moral smugness and piss off. As long as you on the one hand want to withdraw from Iraq and let it descend into an utter chaos with terrorists and Baathists running rampant, I have no reason to take seriously your concern about Darfur on the other hand.”
Andrew Monday, September 18, 2006 @ 7:44:31 pm
“IOW, if you want to say “Fuck youâ€? to genocidal regimes, you first need to say “Fuck youâ€? to the UN and diplomacy. Are you ready to do that, Leanne Leahy? If not, I suggest you protest up and down the Hudson River until you can lull yourself to sleep at night feeling better about yourself and continue to live in the dream world you currently occupy. You’re not willing to pay the price and sign up to what it takes to actually save the world, you’d rather live in your liberal fantasy world where genocides can be stopped when all the good people of the world join together and sing kumbaya in Central Park. So don’t you dare give us any more of your hypocritical bullshit pleas for saving the children of Darfur when you won’t support the policies necessary to make it happen.”
If my best friend wrote something like that to my mother, he wouldn’t be upright for long. You chose…poorly.
1) I hadn’t read Andrew’s comments till now. I tend to lose track of the commentary on the political threads.
2) My mom is a big girl; she doesn’t need me to stick up for her. She also “started it,” in the sense that she asked Andrew “WHAT THE F**K IS WRONG WITH YOU” and he is merely responding in kind. And unlike the personal attacks that certain other commenters I could name have made in the past against another women near and dear to my heart, Andrew’s insults are fundamentally political in nature, not fundamentally personal. For instance, he’s not calling my mom ugly or fat, or telling my dad to divorce my mom, or anything like that; THAT would get me angry. But this? This is just business-as-usual on the Irish Trojan’s Blog. It’s really quite ironic that you, of all people, are suggesting that I should be more offended than I am, Leahy.
No, he’s not being personal. He’s just calling your mom an out of touch socialite who fiddles at dinner parties and (gasp!) art galleries while children starve because she doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude to do what is necessary to save them. Purely political.
Your comparison to my comments as some kind of a threshold for your anger is irrelevant. I’m not your best friend. As a matter of fact, we don’t like other. Not even a little bit.
Er. That is kind of an asshole remark Andrew made. If he wants to say it about me or A Nun Mouse or whatever, that’s one thing. He doesn’t really know me. But to trash your mom like that when he knows you/her I think tells a lot about his character, or lack thereof. I think Andrew will do better in this life if he learns to use a little of that diplomacy he so hates.
Yeah, it’s kind of an asshole remark. Andrew can be an asshole online; I long ago accepted this. But like I said, my mom is a big girl. She lived through the sixties. I’m pretty sure she can stand up for herself.
Leahy, why did you move it over to this thread? You have a remarkable habit of highlighting, and drawing additional attention to, remarks that you ostensibly find offensive. It’s almost like you enjoy the conflict more than you actually care about the offensiveness…
If you would not have had a problem with what Andrew said if it was said to a total stranger then you do not have a problem with his opionion just who he expressed that opionion to and Brendan’s point, correct me if I am wrong Captain, is that that is not what this blog is about and Andrew’s tone, no matter how forceful or seemingly disrespectful, as long as it is not PERSONAL he encourages that type of back and forth.
damn that is a long sentence sorry folks, someone berate for that if you must.
Moved it to this thread because you make dozens of posts a week and things tend to scroll off quickly and get buried. Thought it was noteworthy. Unaware of my habit, but will endeavor to break tendency in the future and keep you on your toes.
Nebraska - That’s a beautiful sentence. Dont’ listen to these grammarians and don’t ever let anyone put a plastic helmet on your head.
“you ready to do that, Leanne Leahy? If not, I suggest you protest up and down the Hudson River until you can lull yourself to sleep at night feeling better about yourself and continue to live in the dream world you currently occupy.”
Oh…that’s not personal. Did you guys just wake up in the Twilight Zone or something?
“personal” to me would be if Andrew told Mrs. Loy that her opionion does not matter because she is a woman and a woman’s place is the kitchen and the bedroom.
clearly andrew was already in full rant mode and from Brendan’s comments I can tell that Andrew is more of a computer gangsta than a real bad ass so I can where he is embolden sitting at the key board instead of expressing himself like this to Mrs. Loy to her face
I can tell that Andrew is more of a computer gangsta than a real bad ass so I can where he is embolden sitting at the key board instead of expressing himself like this to Mrs. Loy to her face.
lol! A “computer gangsta”? That implies I gang up on people and conduct drive-by attacks. In person I tend to be more level-headed, but I’m no less confrontational live than digital when I feel its necessary. The problem is, most people can’t handle confrontation without getting emotional and/or physical, so as I’ve grown older I’ve tended to lay off a bit — I just don’t have the energy anymore to bother.
In any case, my heated rant was no more personal than what Leanna directed at me and others who have expressed a more realist attitude towards Darfur. I mean, we’ve only been accused of being heartless and not caring about genocide and all, as if another holocaust could happen and we’d respond by rolling over and going back to sleep.

Coach Leahy-
I used to go to the lounge, but it was kind of dead. Kind of like Vegas after the Rat Pack left.

No. He just said that her opinion doesn’t matter because of who she is.
September 19th, 2006 at 4:53:47 pm
Angry,
You’re giving the Lounge too much credit. I’d say it’s been more like Branson after midnight.
Anyway, somebody resurrected BA and he’s got a big post in the works about some developments behind the scenes. Stay tuned.

Hey, if it’s the right size for proper insertion into the B drive, and it functions properly while inserted, isn’t that what is important ?

The B drive? That’s pretty cheeky, you old sot!
