Announcing the future Mrs. Duque-Long!
Posted by on Sunday, June 11, 2006 at 1:45 am

I am very pleased to announce that, on Friday night, Miss Beatriz Duque accepted my marriage proposal!

More details and pictures are to come, once Brendan enables me to upload pictures onto the website. :-)

By the way, Bea and her brother Jaime should be arriving soon in Frankfurt, Germany, where they will begin their travels through Germany over the next two weeks to see all three First Round USA games. Don’t forget to look for them in the stands when you watch the games on TV, as I hear they’ll be dressed in full patriotic garb with face paint to boot! Needless to say [so why say it? –ed. Go away, diction nazi!], I wish I was there with them, but alas, I had to spend my money on a ring instead of on summer travel plans, so I’ll have to sit this World Cup out. But hey, who’s in for South Africa 2010? :-)

Congratulations are in order for the two of you. Perhaps by dint of marriage, Bea will be able to further soften the edges on the purposely inflammatory Andrew–as he exists in reality, if possibly not extending to his online persona… :)

  2. ScottF Says:

A very hearty congratulations to you both. So, is Brendan invited to your wedding or will you get someone else to liveblog it for you? :-)

  3. Jazz Says:

Andrew & Bea - congratulations! Best wishes for much enjoyment in planning the event (and of course the many years beyond).

  17. Brendan Loy Says:

    Jealous? What what WHAT?

    :)

  18. Brendan Loy Says:

Oh… you meant jealous of the World Cup thing. Nevermind. :)

  19. Joe Loy Says:

No she didn’t. :) NONONONO J/K of Course she did! ;>

CONGRATULATIONS! to two great people who make One Great Couple. / And who in future will doubtless Make one great big happy Republican family. :)

  20. Brendan Loy Says:

Nah, they’ll have at least one rebellious hippie loony liberal kid… just you watch. :)

  21. Andrew Says:

Heh. Thanks all. No date has been set; we barely had time to revel in our new status before she had to leave Saturday morning. Personally I’m leaning towards March 4 of next year, which has the advantage of being the day after my birthday (extra presents!!!) and thus I’ll be less prone to forget my anniversary in years ahead… plus it’s on a Sunday, which should make it easier for my close Jewish friends to attend. I think Bea and I are both leaning towards a spring wedding either way, though.

The wedding in all likelihood will not be at a Catholic church, but I expect it to be at least somewhat Catholic in tradition and influence because of the Colombian side.

We are looking forward to someday having loony liberal kids. They will at least be well-educated liberals who are well-versed in conservatism however; they’ll be getting nothing but Goldwater, Hayek, Burke, and Buckley et al from me for many, many birthdays. ;-)

And I have no doubt the wedding will be live-blogged by Brendan, but I’ll leave that up to the master blogger himself to figure out how he wants to do it. He’ll have the challenge of playing a groomsman role as well, but I’m sure he can manage the multitasking angle.

Finally, if I am deathly sick at my own wedding like I was at Brendan’s, I will be pissed. It’ll be disappointing enough on its own that I won’t get to share resort digs with three hot semi-naked chicks like at Brendan’s wedding. ;-)

LOL! On the bright side, you’ll get to share resort digs with one hot, totally naked chick, on your wedding night. Or at least, one would hope so. :)

  23. Andrew Says:

I dunno, how difficult is it to get the woman out of those complicated white dresses? hehe

  24. Keri Says:

Congratulations & Best Wishes to the both of you!

  25. Kristy Says:

HOLY CRAP CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am so excited for you both! And don’t worry about the whole “get woman out of complicated white dress” thing, Andrew…that’s why god invented scissors.

  26. Brenda Says:

Congrats!! Remember to always compromise and laugh

  27. Melanie Dickson Says:

Congratulations to you both and best wishes for many happy years to come.

  28. Kathy Porter Says:

Terrific news you guys! Man, you’re a bit slow mate! Couldn’t we all see this coming 2 years ago? All your Aussie relatives are really happy for you, though I’m the only one priveledged to have met beautiful Bea. God bless you richly. Cheers, Kathy

  29. Madita Says:

    First of all: CONGRATULATIONS!
But I also have to say something:
I am German and I promise there are NO NAZIS!
It is just a preconception that anybody in our beautiful country is a nazi!
We have the same problems with these stupid people like the Americans have!
After 50 years anybody should be clever enough to understand that the time changed.
Anybody is talking about the things the Americans did and still do!

I would be pleased to show Bea Frankfurt and to show her how nice the Germans can be!
I guided you around and I really think I was as friendly as the Americans I know!
