Actually Max, I would disagree, to some extent. Considering they have, as you say, “died for []our freedom,” I see nothing wrong with honoring their sacrifices by exercising our freedoms. What’s more American than a hotdog and a beer?
However, while exercising those freedoms, we should also pause to remember, reflect and honor those who made it possible for us to have a hotdog and a beer. Considering that this post was my small attempt to do just that, I’m not sure why you felt the need to comment here about hotdog and beer.
Amen, amen. / Alasdair, though the phrase be from a Song of Another country still I say, may God Bless & God Rest “those fearless brave who fighting fall” to defend the freedom of America (and so the Hope of freedom for the peoples of All the world).
Seems to me that Max was just pointing out that Americans don’t always appreciate our military’s sacrifice. I don’t think the dude had an ulterior motive.

Nothing says honor those who have died for your freedom like a hotdog and a beer. Somehow it seems totally inadequate.

Even those of us from other countries now living here respect what those who have fallen have done for us and others …
As the cliché bumpersticker says
“If you can read this, thank a Teacher !
If you can read this in English, thank your Armed Forces !”

“If you can read this, thank a Teacher ! If you can read this in English, thank your Armed Forces !
You should add: “If you are in this country and can’t read English, thank Senor Bush.”

FYI - Hot dogs and beer are German.
