Reggie Bush won’t be the #1 pick in tomorrow’s NFL Draft. Instead, the Houston Texas will take N.C. State’s Mario Williams with the first pick. (Hat tip: Chris and Mad Max.)
New Orleans has the #2 pick, and Peter King wrote earlier today that the Saints would definitely take Bush “in the unlikely event” they had the chance, which they now do. But Andrew thinks they may work out a trade and Bush may end up with Norm Chow and Tennessee, which picks third. We’ll see.

As a USC alum and a Houstonian, this hits me double hard.
Maybe the third pull-off-the-road sports story of my life.
First the Vince Bowl, now this.
Local TV should pull a page from Letterman and run an ongoing segment called, “The Houston Texans–What?!”
Ten years from now, Mario Williams will be synonymous with Sam Bowie. This is finding enough faults with Dan Marino that he becomes the sixth quarterback taken in the first round.
Houston’s UT contingent (vast and deep) was willing to grudgingly accept Bush instead of Young. Now, they may burn the stadium down.

ESPN Classic and ESPNU are replaying the 2006 Rose Bowl. Ahh, such sweet, sweet memories!

Mario Williams better be the best DAMN Def End that has ever played the game.
While I can’t completely agree with the Sam Bowie comment above (I don’t think that Bush is synonymous with Jordan in skill level - just my opinion) this is truly a bad decision.

I fail to understand how a team who’s primary problem over the last number of years has been offense takes a defensive player first when a guy like Bush is just sitting waiting to be taken.
It certainly wouldn’t hurt my feelings if Reggie fell to #3, although I now suspect that the Saints will work a deal to trade their #2 to someone who REALLY REALLY wants Reggie Bush. Honestly, it’ll probably work out better for the kid in the long run anyway. He might have a chance to play on a team with some reasonable chance at the playoffs/Super Bowl in the next 5 years.
For some reason, though, I just can’t get that excited about the draft this year.

Ahhhh Randy is a Texas fan, that explains so much.
Oh well, its Texas, Bush is better off ANYWHERE else. Too bad the Seahawsk have no shot at him and a great running back allready, would love to see him play a few more games in person.
