According to Captain Ed at Captain’s Quarters Blog, I am one of five bloggers nominated by The Week for 2005’s “Blogger of the Year.”
My competition is Captain Ed, Michelle Malkin, John Aravosis of Americablog, and Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post.
Pretty cool!
(Here are 2004’s winners and finalists.)
If I win, the section on humility may collapse under the sheer weight of the ego boost. :) But really, it’s an honor just to be nominated. I’m not nearly as hot as Michelle Malkin, nor do I have a cool accent like Arianna Huffington. I’m just a weather nerd! (And a basketball nerd… and a law nerd… and a Lord of the Rings nerd… and a Mac nerd…)
P.S. Should I, like, campaign or something? I haven’t campaigned for anything since my successful bid to be voted “Best Should-Be Couple” with Karyn Bacinskas my senior year in high school. (We had campaign signs and everything!)
P.P.S. I feel like I’m the Cinderella story of this competition. I’m the plucky mid-major going up against big-conference heavyweights like Malkin and Huffington. I am Winthrop!!! :)

Congratulations!!!! Super sweet.
You should totally campaign. I’d like to apply to be your campaign manager. I’ve learned quite a bit from the West Wing. :)
Apparently “March Madness” also = “blog madness” for me. I hope you enjoy the novels I sent along with my picks, my parents’ picks, and my boyfriend and his roomate’s picks.

Well, we can all be thankful you are not Spartacus!
Congratulations. Well-earned.

Sorry, but Arianna Huffington’s accent sucks even worse than she does. I’d rather watch puppies burned at the stake than listen to that twit.
Oh, and congrats :-)

Hmm it looks like the page shwos the 2004 finalists, wonder why they are so behind.

I don’t know, but I’m guessing the nominees are sort of “unofficial” until the magazine is actually released… kinda like how Time doesn’t announce its Person of the Year finalists until the actual POY is unveiled… and Captain Ed got this info from an inside source or something. That’s what it sounds like in his post: “Earlier today I learned…”
So the reason they still have the 2004 finalists is because the 2005 finalists, myself included, haven’t officially been announced yet, and won’t be until the winner is announced in next month’s issue.
But again, that’s just a guess.
Thanks for the congrats, everyone. :)

Definitely campaign. Ooh, can I be your campaign manager. We can make signs. “Vote for Loy! He won’t put all the Arabs in concentration camps!” Or “Vote for Loy! He lets his opposition guest-blog!”

Michelle Malkin is “hot”? *cough*…Yeah…In that, evil “let me sear your soul” kind of way that we like….

I subscribe to The Week, love it!!!

Congratulations! You got my vote, especially over a hater like Malkin and Arianna, the Net’s answer to Eva Gabor. Everytime she talks I expect Arnold the Pig to show up.

Congrats, but, uh, Winthrop lost. ;)
CQ is the likely winner for 2005; IMHO Ed should have won it in 2004; I’d vote for Malkin this year, but I doubt they’re going to give it to her.
Aravosis is the real head-scratcher. Oh, wait a minute, he brought down Jeff Gannon!
