Kirby leads NIT pool; Loy, Rubin, Pilz surge into second
Posted by on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 1:15 am

Gary Kirby, a member of the USC Class of 1987 and a blog reader who goes by “gahrie” in the blog comment section, took the lead in the 2nd annual BrendanLoy.com NIT Pool on Wednesday with a perfect 7-for-7 day in the second round.

Kirby has 199 of a possible 209 points. Close on his heels are Newington High School Class of 1999 classmates Brendan Loy and Josh Rubin and Martin Kellogg Middle School 8th grader Kevin Pilz, all tied for second with 192 points. Andrew Long, who led four games into the second round, and Jamie McGinnis are tied for fifth with 190 points.

Defending champion Tom “Scientizzle” Keck, who led after the first day of the pool, has dropped all the way to 47th place after a 1-for-7 day, and one of his predicted finalists was eliminated when Oklahoma State lost to Miami.

  1. Colin Pedicini Says:

Wow. I’ve got a long way to go to get to perfect predictions. I’m 69th out of 74. At least I’m not last…

It’s only my first year, though.

  2. Mike Says:

No, no, last place belongs to me, with my 1-for-7 day which eliminated 3 of my final 4. Bah. As I keep saying, I know basically nothing about college basketball, and it’s finally becoming glaringly obvious. I wonder if this means that this year I’ll finally do abyssmally in the women’s NCAA bracket as well.

  3. Randy Says:

It’s over Velte, give up now :)

  4. josh Says:

    Let’s goooooooooo Mar-y-land!

Mike, last isn’t a bad place to be in … I’ve been there many a time over the last decade with these pools…

Even worse, I’ve spent more time somewhere in the middle. Dead last has more noteriety than buried elsewhere …
