I Agree. / Even if the Hospital reporting requirement (like many Other civilized rules :) Doesn’t Apply in Texas :>, it seems to me Dumb of Cheney’s office Not to have moved quickly to Get Ahead of what would inevitably be a Big story whenever it Did eventually Come Out. Nay. They should have come Out with it, as Pronto as Possible.

no no, the real question is, is there such a crime as: attempted involuntary manslaughter? or how about, involuntary assault with a deadly weapon? or is the worst we can get tricky dick on something like mishandling a firearm?
Hey - it’s *you* loony liberal left guys that have driven poor Mr Cheney to this, to prove that he is not only not beholden to his contributors, he’s actually willing to cull the herd …
(grin)
Now let’s see who on the loony liberal left can top that by bagging George Soros !
Those of you who are frequent visitors around here and know how much disdain I have for the Bush administration may want to sit down.
The left and the media are being completely stupid regarding this incident. I keep hearing stories about “It happened on Saturday but we didn’t know about it til Sunday, why did they keep it secret for 24 hours”, etc.
Are you kidding me? Who cares how long they kept it secret for. Unless he did something illegal like intentionally shoot the guy this is not scandal worthy. Huntin accidents happen and other than the people involved and the relavent park and/or saftey officials I don’t see that it matters who else gets told or not told.
So unless he is trying to get convicted of a lighter crime so he can go to a nice minimum security prison before he gets impeached for leaking classified information and sent to Gitmo :-) I don’t see what the big deal is here.
David - what I am finding truly mind-boggling is the MSM pissing and moaning that no-one spoon-fed them the story for 24 hours …
Where were the Ace Reporters of the MSM (TM) during that 24 hour period ? Did they rationalise that, since the Veep had actually hit something on a hunting trip, they couldn’t report on what might have been a Good Thing for a Republican ?
“Just imagine if chutzpah destabilized the space-time continuum. Then imagine Ted Kennedy taking to the floor of the Senate to denounce Cheney’s accident reporting protocols. Space and time would fold in on themselves in the well of the Senate and while Ted would vanish in a fzzztt…spork! and a burst of ozone, maybe a cool pterodactyl or woolly mammoth would escape through the rip in existence and terrorize the capitol.”
No, what I find interesting where are all the people on the loony right demanding an investigation? I mean if it is a guy that clearly commits suicide in a park with a note that needs a major criminal investigation, but when the vice president shoots someone that doesn’t? Just saying.
Senator Kennedy requested that his comments on the floor be entered into the record before the universe imploded:
“Gulp Glub Glurb. This administration continues to show it’s disdain for transparency by not coming to the newsmedia immediately with an acknowledgement of the vice president’s reckless and negligent actions. Blurgh blug gurgle.”
The WH press corps was foaming at the mouth about this, especially David Gregory from NBC (http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2006/02/no_lights_no_ca.html):
Why was the White House relying on a Texas rancher to get the word of Cheney’s hunting accident out over the weekend, asked Gregory, accusing McClellan of “ducking and weaving.”
“David, hold on… the cameras aren’t on right now,” McClellan replied. “You can do this later.”
“Don’t accuse me of trying to pose to the cameras,” the newsman said, his voice rising somewhat. “DonÃt be a jerk to me personally when IÃm asking you a serious question.”
“You don’t have to yell,” McClellan said.
“I will yell,” said Gregory, pointing a finger at McClellan at his dais. “If you want to use that podium to try to take shots at me personally, which I donÃt appreciate, then I will raise my voice, because thatÃs wrong.”
“Calm down, Dave, calm down,” said McClellan, remaining calm throughout the exchange.
“I’ll calm down when I feel like calming down,” Gregory said. “You answer the question.”
“I have answered the question,” said McClellan, who had maintained that the vice president’s office was in charge of getting the information out and worked with the ranch owner to do that. “I’m sorry you’re getting all riled up about.”
“I am riled up,” Gregory said, “because youÃre not answering the question,”
McClellan insisted he understood that reporters deserve an answer.
“I think you have legitimate questions to ask,” the press secretary said. “The vice presidentÃs office was the one that took the lead to get this information out… I donÃt know what else to tell you… That’s my answer.”
I think McClellan on balance has been a lousy press secretary, but he looked downright Jeffersonian next the that insufferable ass Gregory. What a riot!
there are a lot of girls I would much rather tempt fait with Andrew…
Are you saying that if you had a chance to marry into the Gore or Kennedy family (or other equally powerful Democratic family… the Daleys, perhaps?), you wouldn’t strongly consider it?
Barbara is no model, but she’s cute enough for the chance to marry into a political dynasty.

Bush Sr’s Secretary of Commerce died in a rodeo accident.
Bush Jr’s VP shoots a guy while hunting birds.
Kind of makes you wonder about the fate of the guy who is going to end up marrying one of the Bush twins…

How fortunate is Pat Leahy that the worst he got was an f-bomb?!
