It’s over!

WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!

For those who feel deprived by not being able to hear Conquest at the end of the game because ABC cut away to the Virginia Tech-Florida State game, here you go:

And here’s Fanfare/Tribute to Troy/Fight On, just for good measure:

UPDATE: In spite of UCLA’s two garbage-time touchdowns, it was the largest margin of victory in the USC-UCLA series since 1930.

    Fight On! Beat the Longhorns!

Meanwhile Georgia is leading LSU 21-7 in the SEC Championship game, an upset win by Georgia puts them in the BCS, and LSU goes to 10-2 muddying up the atlarge pics even more potentially.

  2. Ken Says:

Of course what I really wanted to hear played was “Everything’s Coming Up Roses.”

Before the BCS, that was what the band always played once USC clinched the conference championship and the trip to the Rose Bowl against the Big 10 team. It is great that this year it means not just the conference championship to be going to the Rose Bowl…but also to be playing for the undisputed national championship.

    Beat the Longhorns!!!

  3. David Says:

The Husky Marching Band has had a logn tradition of playing Louie Louie. During the song it is traditional to sing “Louie Louie, we gotta go…ROSE BOWL!” Of course this hasn’t exactly been happening recently, we switch it to “GO DAWGS” once it becomes pretty clear that the Rose Bowl is not a likely destination.

  4. David Says:

    Um Brendan, they are backwards

No way does LSU get an at-large bid coming off a loss ahead of one-loss Oregon, two-loss Ohio State, two-loss Notre Dame and two-loss Auburn, all of which are coming off multiple consecutive wins. LSU is a non-factor in the BCS picture. As will be Virginia Tech, on the off chance they lose to Florida State. You don’t lose your conference title game and expect to get in over teams with identical records who ended the reason on a roll… not gonna happen.

  6. Brendan Says:

David, you may need to reload the IFRAMES…

  7. David Says:

I dunno, Oklahoma blew their conference championship, and don’t you think there is a chance that the Orange Bowl might be interested in an at large LSU? Of course if FSU upsets VTech things get really interesting

  8. David Says:

Brendan, I did a forced reload of the page, i’m not getting a difference

I’ll try quiting and starting over.

  9. David Says:

    Ok fixed now :-) weird…

  10. Observer Says:

Why was LenDale White still playing when USC was up 52-6? Pete Carroll wouldn’t know class if it hit him in the face.

  11. Brendan Says:

Apples and oranges, David. Oklahoma was undefeated prior to that game, not a one-loss team, and they were not selected for an at-large bid, but rather, qualified automatically for the championship game because of the BCS formula. The bowls have no discretion to reject the #2 team in the BCS. They do have discretion to reject an at-large contender that lost its final game, and they will.

You can take this to the bank: LSU will not be in a BCS bowl if they lose; they won’t even be seriously considered. Nor will Virginia Tech if they lose. There are far too many deserving one- and two-loss teams that didn’t lose their last games of the season — indeed, that are on substantial winning streaks — to think that the Fiesta or Orange bowls will even consider giving a bid to a team on a losing streak. No way, absolutely no way.

  12. Charles Fenwick Says:

Gee, if I were a USC fan on the west coast, I think that (not being able to hear Conquest at the end of the game because ABC cut away to the Virginia Tech-Florida State game) would bug me as much as it bugged me when ABC stuck with the game here on the east coast for several minutes past eight (for no apparent reason).

  13. Embittered Says:

Aren’t you going to post the lyrics too?

“This is the only song we know. It’s boring and it’s slow” (repeat 619 times).

  14. Brendan Says:

    Heh.

(That’s Tribute to Troy, of course, not Conquest. The lyrics of Conquest, so far as I know, are limited to “Doo doo, doo doo! Doo doo, doo doo!”)

  15. Embittered Says:

I forgot the lyrics to that one. It has something to do with being just as bad and twice as long.

  16. David Says:

    Conquest Lyrics

    (first verse)

We are going to beat the Longhorns a month from now!

And their mascot is a freakign cow!

    The marching band is lame!

They will go down in flames!

Reggie Bush will run circles round their defense, they will be crying in shame!

    Leinert and White

Will both be scoring touchdowns all night

They’ll go left and then they’ll go right

Texas won’t even be able to put up a fight

    The

    Trojan

    Defensive line,

Will knock the Longhorns on their behind

    Jackson, Rucker, and Bing

    Will

    sack

    Vince

    Young all day

They’ll make him paaaaaaay aaaaalll game!

    SC

    They will go

    mar-ching on to Victory

And the fans will scream in ecstacy

    Champions once again

    The Trojans will always win

  17. David Says:

And they will go down in history

    As the

    Great-est

    team

    in all the

    World!
