It restores a bit of my faith in the jury system to hear this quote from Juror #1:
“I feel that Michael Jackson has probably molested boys,” [62-year-old civil engineer Raymond] Hultman said on CNN. “To be in your bedroom for 365 straight days and not do something more than just watch television and eat popcorn, that doesn’t make sense to me.
But that doesn’t make him guilty of the charges that were presented.”
Imagine that: people who aren’t smart enough to evade jury duty :) but are nevertheless capable of rationally analyzing the evidence and separating their preconceived notions and suspicions from the actual facts that are presented to them. The media would lead us to believe that such people do not exist, but apparently, they do!
Nice work, jurors. Seriously.
Meanwhile, Michael Jackson has had a “better late than never” revelation:
Michael Jackson’s lawyer said Tuesday he is convinced that the pop star “has never molested any child,” but he said Jackson would no longer let children or their families sleep in his room.
“He’s not going to do that because it makes him vulnerable to false charges,” attorney Thomas Mesereau Jr. told The Associated Press in a wide-ranging interview.
Ya think?
And finally, going from the sublime to the ridiculous from the ridiculous to the even more ridiculous:
The Jackson Web site mjjsource.com trumpeted the acquittal with graphics declaring “Innocent” and showing a hand giving a victory sign as a fanfare plays. A scrolling calendar highlights historic events such as “Martin Luther King is born,”"The Berlin Wall falls,”"Nelson Mandela is freed,” and finally, “June 13, 2005, Remember this date for it is a part of HIStory.” The reference was to Jackson’s 1995 album “HIStory: Past, Present, and Future Book I.”
Because the birth of Dr. King, the fall of communism, the liberation of Nelson Mandela, and the acquittal of Michael Jackson are all events of roughly equivalent historical importance. Riiight.
